This weekend I’m running the Beerathon. One of the biggest events on the London beer running calendar, it sold out back in May and has great reviews from past runners.
Like any big goal I’m putting it out there so when the going gets tough and I want to quit, I’ll remember that I’ve already told everyone about it and should probably keep going. A beerathon is not a beer run or the beer mile. It’s more. Organised by Beer Belly Running for charity, Alex and I will be running 5 miles and consuming 5 slobstacles all to claim my place as a beerathoner.
The premise is simple
Run 1 mile
Drink a bitter & eat a scotch egg
Run 1 mile
Drink a lager & eat a cornish pasty
Run 1 mile
Drink a cider & eat a pork pie
Run 1 mile
Drink a Guinness & eat a crumble
Stand up (if possible) to receive finishers medal.
Oh, and you have to do it all in fancy dress.
The race HQ is the Hoop and Grapes in Farringdon and this year we’re lucky enough to share the road with Ride100. So if you’re riding by and want to stop in for a refreshment please do come and say hi.
Here’s a video of the last big beer training run I did in February. Please note the smooth jazz & soft focus editing was the choice of Google+’s photo editor machine, but it is quite fitting for our recollections of the afternoon.
